Abstract

In recent decades, Islamophobia has emerged as a significant phenomenon affecting the Muslim minority in the Netherlands. This trend has been fueled by aggressive campaigns from far-right political parties and extremist community leaders, resulting in the construction of a bleak and negative image of Islam and Muslims within Dutch society. These campaigns have manifested through harassment, social pressures, and media-driven narratives that perpetuate stereotypes by linking Islam to criminal and terrorist activities. Such portrayals have distorted the perception of Islam and undermined the role of mosques and Islamic centers. Over time, this grim image has become deeply embedded in the intellectual and cultural fabric of Dutch society, evolving into a normalized and widely accepted view among a substantial segment of the population. This study aims to analyze the societal impact of Islamophobia, focusing on its consequences for the Muslim minority and its broader implications for Dutch society.
