Abstract

ABSTRACT: This research addressed a topic related to lexical awareness among secondary school students in Yoruba cities, the reasons for its weakness, and methods for developing it among learners. It attempted to focus its attention on learners who speak the Yoruba language and also touched upon the concept of language acquisition and learning. The research then spoke about the Arab schools that adopt curricula in the region, and about the relationship between learning the Arabic language and using linguistic dictionaries. This study also highlighted the position of the curriculum followed in these schools regarding lexical culture. This demonstrated the need for specialized school dictionaries for non-Arabic speakers and highlighted the weakness of lexical awareness among learners and ways to strengthen it.
