Abstract

This study examines some of the critical remarks made by the two prominent 9th-century hadith scholars Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī and al-Biqāʿī on the methodological positions of al-Ḥāfiẓ al-ʿIrāqī in his two major works: al-Taqyīd wa-l-Īḍāḥ and the commentary on al-Tabṣirah wa-l-Tadhkirah. The research collects, organizes, and analytically evaluates some issues in which Ibn Ḥajar and al-Biqāʿī contested the views of al-ʿIrāqī. Using an inductive and comparative analytical method, the study clarifies the origins of each dispute, assesses the evidences presented by all sides, and determines the most substantiated position. Despite this, the study affirms that such scholarly critiques represent a natural and constructive feature of hadith scholarship, one that enhances not diminishes the scientific value and precision of al-ʿIrāqī’s contributions.
