Abstract

The Noble Quran contains numerous verses addressing the cosmos such as the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of night and day which invite humanity to reflect and contemplate. It is essential to adopt a sound religious methodology to understand and interpret these verses, avoiding both extremism and denial. This study aims to establish a correct approach for engaging with the cosmic verses in the Quran, clarifying Islam's stance on scientific facts and the harmony between reason and the Quranic text. The study employs an inductive-analytical method, gathering relevant verses, analyzing the views of exegetes, and deriving the religious principles and guidelines for interpreting them. The findings reveal that knowledge of the cosmos rests on two foundations: revealed religious texts and empirical observations perceived by human senses. Authentic religious texts contain nothing that contradicts valid scientific knowledge regarding the cosmos; rather, these verses serve to demonstrate the perfection of God’s power and wisdom, remind people of His blessings so they may offer true gratitude, and encourage them to worship Him as is rightfully due.
