Abstract

The problem addressed by this study is that epidemics are among the universal decrees of Allah Almighty, appearing from time to time. In our present era, the Coronavirus pandemic has emerged, sweeping across the entire world. Consequently, many countries have implemented numerous preventive and therapeutic measures. Acts of worship, including fasting, zakat, and hajj, have been affected by this pandemic, leading to many rulings that require study and clarification. This study aims to elucidate these rulings, examine the opinions of scholars on these matters, and state the most correct opinion on each issue. The inductive method was followed, gathering issues related to jurisprudential rulings on epidemics in the chapters of fasting, zakat, and hajj, and clarifying the ruling for each. The study reached several conclusions, the most important of which are: Muslims are not permitted to break their fast during Ramadan in times of epidemics unless it is scientifically proven that not drinking water has a significant health impact on those fasting. Contemporary jurists have differed on the prohibition of hajj in a country due to epidemics. The prevailing opinion is that it is permissible for the ruler to prohibit hajj due to epidemics, as epidemics pose a threat to human life. This prohibition, in light of disasters, serves to protect life, which is one of the five essential necessities that Islamic law aims to preserve. Allah Almighty has commanded obedience to the ruler in matters that do not involve disobedience to Allah.
