Abstract
This study examines the jurisprudential marginalia (ḥawāshī) in the Hanbali school, highlighting their scientific role and significance in clarifying, critiquing, and enriching original texts. The research defines marginalia, their characteristics, and compares them with related works such as commentaries, notes, and annotations. It also investigates their historical origins, development across centuries, and classification according to their objectives and purposes. Through an inductive and descriptive methodology, the study compiles a list of major marginalia works in the Hanbali school, showcasing their types and aims, which include text clarification, scholarly critique, additions, and analogical reasoning for new issues.
