AL-IMĀM AL-TIRMIDHĪ'S APPROACH IN THE INTERPRETATION THROUGH HIS BOOK "AL-JĀMIʻ" AND ITS IMPACT ON INTERPRETATION AND INTERPRETER

Abstract

The problem of this research consists in the lack of the studies which explain the method of al-Imām al-Tirmidhī in the interpretation of al-Qurʼān through his book "al-Jāmiʻ" and its impact  on interpretation (Tafsīr) and interpreter (Mufassir) since al-Imām al-Tirmidhī is one of the prominent scholars of prophetic tradition (Sunnah) who cared about the interpretation of al-Qurʼān in his book "al-Jāmi". This research seeks to reveal the method of al-Imām al-Tirmidhī in the interpretation of al-Qurʼān through his book "al-Jāmiʻ" and to explore the impact of its method on interpretation and interpreter. By employing the descriptive, analytical and deductive approaches to achieve the aims of this research. From the findings of this research: (1) Al-Imām al-Tirmidhī relied on the sources of al-Qurʼān, Sunnah, al-Ḥadīth al-Qudsī (Sacred Ḥadīth), anlaysis and quotations from the successors scholars: (2) Al-Imām al-Tirmidhī adopted the direct and indirect interpretation of al-Qurʼān. It suggests conducting further studies about the efforts of scholars of prophetic tradition in the interpretation of al-Qurʼān through their books.
