The Principle of Sadd al-Dhara’i and Its Contemporary Applications in Medical Issues

Abstract

This research targets to analyze the concept of sad al-dhara’i` as applied to a set of medical issues including surgery, blood transfusions, organ transplantation as well as the treatment of infertility and contraception. The research problems lies in analysing the concept of sad al-dhara’i` and their impact on the medical examination and surgery and the rule of cosmetic surgery and sex change. How does this concept affect the rules of blood transfusions and organ transplantation as well as the rule of the treatment of infertility and contraception? The importance of this study is that it is a realistic study related to medical issues that are indispensable. The research highlights what is prohibited and what is permissible in the most important issues of contemporary medication. The researcher followed both inductive and analytical methods to reach his gools. The study concluded the legality of medical examination before marriage, medication and medical surgery, when necessary. Cosmetic surgery and sex change are prohibited. The study concluded that blood transfusions and organ transplantation from one person to another are permissible to save his soul. The study also found out the impermissibility of contraception except for an acceptable need. One may also treat infertility to form a family.
