Abstract

Qur’anic Women’s Centers in the State of Qatar are among the most important institutions dedicated to the memorization and teaching of the Glorious Qur’an. This study sheds light on the educational methods employed in these centers and examines how they may be enhanced to promote Qur’anic learning and understanding. It also analyzes the extent to which the methodology of Imām Abū Ḥāmid al-Ghazālī in Qur’anic education has been reflected in contemporary centers. Al-Ghazālī is well known for his pedagogical methods that integrate intellectual and spiritual formation. The research aims to highlight al-Ghazālī’s methodology in Qur’anic education and relate it to the reality of women’s Qur’anic centers in Qatar, with the goal of drawing on this classical Islamic heritage to foster cognitive and behavioral growth and contribute to human development. The importance of the study lies in reviving the contributions of one of Islam’s great scholars, deriving Qur’anic teaching methods from his works, and applying them within modern educational settings. The researcher combines her professional experience in Qur’anic education and daʿwah with her academic specialization in tafsīr and Qur’anic sciences. The study traces the cognitive and behavioral dimensions of al-Ghazālī’s theory, examines their impact on shaping Muslim generations and community building, and analyzes their relevance to the current educational practices of Qur’anic centers in Qatar. Methodologically, the study employs the descriptive, analytical, and inductive approaches to examine al-Ghazālī’s methods of teaching and learning the Qur’an. It also applies a field-based approach to assess the extent of compatibility and divergence between al-Ghazālī’s pedagogy and contemporary practices in Qatari women’s centers. The findings confirm that al-Ghazālī’s methodology represents an authentic educational model that can enrich the development of Qur’anic centers. The study also identifies both strengths and weaknesses in applying his approach today and proposes innovative strategies to enhance the role of Qur’anic centers in human and community development.
