Abstract
This study aims to derive the contextual indications of the story of Jesus (PBUH) in Surah Maryam. The study employs the inductive method to trace the instances where Jesus (PBUH) is mentioned, followed by the descriptive method to analyze the contexts in which the story appears. Additionally, the analytical and inferential methods are applied to derive meanings and implications from these contexts. Among the key findings of this research is the strong correlation between the story of Jesus in Surah Maryam and the Surah’s name, central theme, and detailed components. The study also highlights the coherence between the story and the preceding and succeeding Surahs. Furthermore, it reveals the close connection between the Qur’anic narrative and the historical context in which it was revealed, aligning seamlessly with the Surah’s overall atmosphere. The research concludes that monotheism is the central theme of the story, and the focus on Jesus’ birth and early life harmonizes with the general theme of the Surah. The originality of this study lies in its novel approach to analyzing the contextual indications of the story of Jesus (PBUH) in Surah Maryam, offering fresh insights into aspects of Qur’anic inimitability.
