Abstract

This study aimed to build a program based on the reciprocal reading strategy to develop reading comprehension skills among eighth-grade students. The researchers used the quasi-experimental approach with two groups:experimental and control. The study tool was a test of reading comprehension skills, and the tool was applied before studying the proposed program. After completing his study on the study sample, which amounted to (110) female students from the schools of Al-Dhahar District, distributed randomly into two groups, an experimental group that included (55) female students from Al-Sayyida Aisha School, and a control group that included (55) female students from Al-Saeed Educational Complex, results were obtained. The study concluded as follows:- There are statistically significant differences at the significance level (0.05) between the average scores of the experimental and control group students in favor of the experimental group students, with regard to the reading comprehension skills tests for the post-application as a whole and its various levels (literal, deductive, critical, gustatory, and creative). The magnitude of the impact of the proposed program on developing reading comprehension skills was significant on testing reading comprehension skills as a whole and at each level separately. - There are statistically significant differences at the significance level (0.05) between the average scores of the experimental and control group students in favor of the experimental group students in the pre- and post-applications in favor of the post-application, with regard to the reading comprehension skills tests for the post-application as a whole and its various levels (literal, deductive, critical, and appreciative). (and creative) and that the size of the impact of the proposed program on developing reading comprehension skills was significant on testing reading comprehension skills as a whole and at each level separately. - The effectiveness of the proposed program on developing reading comprehension skills among eighth-grade female students in the city of Ibb. Among the most important recommendations reached by the study:- Reconsidering the questions of reading books for the basic grades so that they focus on reading comprehension skills, especially the levels of critical, appreciative, and creative understanding. - Reconsidering the evaluation and its methods - for the teacher and the learner - in teaching the Arabic language, to include developing reading comprehension skills, forming positive attitudes towards reading and the Arabic language, and activating them in successive grades and stages of study. - Calling upon curriculum authors and developers to plan Arabic language curricula so that their objectives and teaching methods focus on developing reading comprehension skills and attitudes toward reading through modern programs and strategies in teaching.
