SORROW ITS CONTROLS AND TREATMENT IN THE LIGHT OF THE NOBLE QUR’AN: AN OBJECTIVE STUDY

Abstract

The research subject is Quranic verses in which the word “sorrow”, not its synonyms, is mentioned; pondering their contexts to infer Quranic guidance and perceive the benefits and lessons which these verses contained. The objectives of the research are explaining the meaning of sorrow, and the difference between it and fear, distress and panic; concluding sorrow controls through Quraanic stories (prophets and believers’ sorrow) as well as concluding sorrow treatment through Quranic verses. The researcher uses the inductive analytical method and finds out that sorrow is the pain of loss or regretting the unattainable. Moreover, sorrow controls are the principles and rules governing these feelings; so that they don’t cause a person to leave the circle of reward into the circle of punishment, and was represented in the personalities of ideal role models. Besides, the absence of sorrow due to some good deeds is a sign of the status of such deeds. It is necessary, also, to repel against sorrow, not to surrender to it because it interrupts the path and weakens the spirit. Finally, invocation of Allah has great influence in repelling sorrow. It is recommended that reading the Quranic text should be activated and seeking its guidance to deal with the issues of our contemporary reality.
