The Art of Translation in the Nigerian Arabic Literature: A Critical Study of Selected Examples

Abstract

Abstract: The study showcased the impacts of Arabic scholars on development of literary translation in Nigeria. It was preceded by presentation of the theories and history of translation in the Arab world and Nigeria, with focus on its ability to help and guide for viability of practical translation in the linguistic and literary aspects. It ranged from translation of history to medicine and literature in Arabic, English and Nigerian Languages. The research aimed at correlating the theories showcased with the practical translations done by Nigerian Arabic scholars to determine their strengths and weaknesses. Among the findings is that those translation works met the requirements to a large extent, except in some areas pointed out for correction. It was later recommended that specialists in the translation field should further put efforts in making their works align with the established theories for viability, guiding to the good logicality and avoiding malapropism.
