The Role of Memorizing the Holy Quran in Developing Productive Skills Among Non-Native Arabic Learners

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to examine the impact of Quran memorization on the development of productive language skills among students who memorize the Quran and are enrolled at the advanced level in the Language Qualification Diploma Program at the Institute of Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers at Umm Al-Qura University. Additionally, it seeks to explore the correlation between the extent of memorization and students’ performance in productive skills (speaking and writing). The study compared a group of Quran memorizers with their peers who had limited or no memorization to examine differences in their acquisition of productive language skills. It adopted a quasi-experimental approach, analyzing statistical differences between two groups that shared the same academic level but varied in their proficiency in Quran memorization. The findings revealed a statistically significant positive correlation between the extent of Quran memorization and performance in productive skills (speaking and writing) among advanced-level students in the Language Qualification Program at the Institute of Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers at Umm Al-Qura University.
