The Islamic trend in social poetry in Osun State

Abstract

Introduction: Islam aims in social poetry to encourage social virtues and warn against its vices. Social poetry is that which identifies social problems in poetic form, then proposes suitable solutions to those problems. The purpose of this paper lies in a descriptive study of the Islamic orientation in selected social poems by poets from the state of Ausen. The paper also aims to trace social life in the state to identify its problems and appropriate remedies. Two poems from the eastern region of the state were selected, and the researcher used descriptive and historical methods to study the poems. In order to achieve the desired goal of the paper, the researcher conducted the study on the following:



  • The introduction

  • The Islamic trend in social poetry in Osun State

  • Presentation of the first poem (Diseases of Nigeria) and the translation of its author

  • The ideas of the poem and its Islamic values

  • Characteristics of the artistic poem

  • Presentation of the second poem (God’s Trustees on Earth) and the translation of its author
