Abstract

This study aims to introduce the time techniques in the short stories and to reveal those techniques in the short stories of the writer Majid Sulaiman. To achieve the aims of the study, the researcher used the descriptive-analytical method. The study was based on an introduction and a preface, in which: (the concept and origin of the story), and two sections: The first section is time in the short story, and the second one is an applied section which about the structure of narrative time in the story (a childhood woven with the prophecy of the grandfather) by Majid Sulaiman. Then, the conclusion, which contains the most important results of the study: that time is the significant factor in the trend of events and their interdependence in the short story. Also, that the rise of time techniques (go over events, flashback, scene, pause, summary) in the story (a childhood woven with the prophecy of the grandfather) -the study sample- contributed to revealing the artistic aspects that appeared through the narrative structure of time, and the study reached that the writer’s success in employing time techniques in the story.
