ABSTRACT

This study “Inclusion of Extensive Reading in Arabic as a second Language Teaching Programs” aims to clarify the significance of extensive reading in Arabic language teaching programs, that is to say Arabic language teaching programs must include extensive reading. The study attempts to answer two main questions: “What is extensive reading and what are the principles of successful extensive reading programs?” and “What are reading fields that students wish to read?” As well as other questions related to these main questions. In answering the study questions, two questionnaires (extensive reading principles questionnaire and students’ habits in extensive reading questionnaire) were constructed, administered, processed, and distributed to the sample of the study: (111) language teaches M/F, and (170) students M/F. The results show that the concept and process of extensive reading needs to be clear to Arabic language teachers, and the role of the teachers to guide the extensive reading programs needs to build.
