Abstract

ABSTRACT


It is very important to focus on the content in teaching and learning process in general and in the teaching Arabic language for non-native speakers in particular; because content represents the culture of the language which enable learner to acquire language skills and communicate with its culture. Therefore, selecting the appropriate content is necessary in helping learner and fostering his language skills. However, choosing the content depends on planning and developing the curricula, and by which content can be utilized effectively in teaching process. Short narrative text has some features which make it attractive such as suspense, chronology, and sequence of events which can ease teaching of Arabic to non-Arabic speakers, especially if narrative text is selected based on systematic basis and clear foundations. Thus, the current research aims to investigate the theoretical foundations that contribute to the use of the narrative text in the teaching Arabic language to non-native speakers for the intermediate level. The research also aims to present a short narrative text as a model based on theoretical foundations.
