"Integration between Terminology and Linguistic Reality"

Abstract

تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى الكشف عن الخلل في استعمال مصطلح الإدغام للدلالة على ظاهرة لغوية معروفة في العربية، فتُبيّنُ الاضطراب في تعريف الإدغام عند القدماء، وعدم وجود علاقة بين المعنى اللغوي والمعنى الاصطلاحي للإدغام، وتكشف عدم قدرة الدرس اللغوي الحديث على رأب هذا الصدع وسد الخلل، عندما جعل الإدغام نوعًا من المماثلة الصوتية، كما تبين التداخل بين مصطلح الإدغام ومصطلحات لغوية أخرى، لتخرج من ذلك كله بأن نظرة القدماء للإدغام لم تكن فيها دقة، وأنه كان من الممكن معالجة ظاهرة الإدغام تحت مسمى آخر أو ظاهرة أخرى.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the inaccuracies of the term diphthongation to signify a well known language phenomenon in Arabic;  the misuses  are obvious in the ancients' definition of the term, and the lack of the relationship between the linguistic meaning and the terminological connotation of diphthongation. This study also reveals the inability of modern linguistics to correct this inaccuracy or misconception that overlaps not only between diphthongation and Sound Assimilation, but also among diphthongation and other linguistic terms. The research finds that the ancients'  overview  of diphthongation is unfortunate, and that it is possible to address diphthongation under another terminology or phenomenon
