Abstract

Introduction. Significant and extensive transformations have transpired during the last third of the twentieth century, marking the global progression of social media. The internet has become a pervasive global phenomenon, effectively eliminating temporal and spatial boundaries, thereby facilitating enhanced connectivity and fostering closer interpersonal relationships. The prevalence of individuals engaged in these networks, particularly among secondary school students, has witnessed a notable rise owing to the wide range of services offered, which are tailored to accommodate their specific interests and aspirations. Nonetheless, this exposure exposes individuals to a range of influences, encompassing both detrimental and beneficial aspects pertaining to religious, moral, social, and other value systems. Therefore, the objective of this research is to comprehensively examine the implications of these impacts, both advantageous and disadvantageous, to implement suitable strategies for guiding students in maximising the positive advantages and mitigating the negative consequences associated with these platforms. To address the adverse social consequences of social media and enhance its efficacy, a suggested strategy is put forth for Malaysian secondary school students, which involves incorporating Quranic narratives to instill values. Methodology. The present study employed a descriptive-analytical approach, which involved the utilisation of various sources and the development of research instruments. Additionally, a quasi-experimental approach was utilised to construct the research study and assess the efficacy of the programme. The study tools (interview, values questionnaire, and test) were prepared, validated, and tested for reliability before being applied to the research sample. The experimental sample comprised 20 students (10 males and 10 females) enrolled at the Al-Aqsa Institute for Quran Memorization in Selangor during the academic year 2023. Results. The study sample was subjected to the application of the proposed approach for values based on Quranic narratives, and the results were obtained. Based on the findings from the t-test, the independent variable, gender, had a statistically significant positive impact (t (70) = 2.58, p = 0.006) at the significance level of 5%. This implies that the gender of the study sample had a statistically significant impact on the students' exam scores.
