The reasons for the phenomenon of insulting Islam in Europe since the eighties of the last century:
An inductive historical study
This paper sheds light on the prevalence of negative views on Islam in Europe, and the emergence of insults to Islam, Muslims, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and the Holy Quran. Using historical and inductive methods, it explores the possible causes, past and present, for such prevalence. It concluded that there are multiple, interrelated factors involved in shaping the superficial view and the misrepresented social imaginary of Islam in Europe. Among the most important factors are the lack knowledge about Islam and the common, systematic miseducation about Islam, which is a key root of negative views and Islamophobia, and in turn, the phenomenon of insulting Islam. Other important reason is the media distortion of Islam, and racism fuelled by far-right groups. There also religious and political-cultural reasons, as well as those caused by some Muslims residing in Europe.
