Abstract
This paper discusses the importance of modern humanities and their importance in research and teaching methods in contemporary Islamic thought. The paper draws the Islamic sciences within the frame of reference of the Islamic vision of the universe, existence, and destiny, and highlights the extent to which it differs from the Western materialist and positivist philosophical background on which human sciences are based. Then, it analyses the methodologies of early Muslims with regard to the so-called "early science" of Greek philosophical origin, with reference to Averroes and al-Warjilani. In the end, it follows a critical analysis of modern psychology of religion and sociology of religion in the Arab Islamic thought and emphasizes their importance in dealing with contemporary Islamic knowledge either in curriculum design, teaching or in research.
