Abstract

Some of the authentic narrations pertaining to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) maybe incorrectly viewed as having contradictory meanings. Among them are the narrations included in this research that relate to the issue of the ruling on nullifying ablution by sleeping. From the point of view of the narration of Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him), sleep does not invalidate ablution, and this is contradicted by other narratives which are included in this research. This disagreement has existed from the time of the Companions (may Allaah be pleased with them) until now. This research elaborates on this disagreement and the reasons for the perceived contradiction in these narrations.  These perceived contradictions can be explained and made clear through ways that are known to the scholars. The sayings and explanations of the scholars are also elucidated on this matter, and the chains of these narrations and those who narrated them are investigated, and a ruling is then set forth. The scholars' rulings are stated for these narrations in terms of the degree of their authenticity. Conclusively, the doctrines of the scholars and the paths that they took to explain the discrepancies in the narrations are weighed, which is then supported by the opinion and point of view of the researcher at hand.
