Abstract
The current study aimed to identify the skills required by sixth grade primary school students to improve their writing skills in Arabic and to identify the reasons for the weakness of spelling skills in general among primary school students from the teachers' point of view. In this study, the researcher adopted the descriptive analytical approach, where the researcher prepared a questionnaire to identify the most important reasons for the weakness of writing and spelling skills among these students from the teachers' point of view, as the study community included all basic government schools for boys in the Shuna al-Shamalia area in the Jordan Valley, numbering 23 schools. The study sample was Arabic language teachers for the sixth grade in basic government schools for boys in the Shuna al-Shamalia area in the Jordan Valley, numbering 25 teachers. In light of the results reached by this study, the researcher concluded a set of recommendations, the most important of which are: the necessity of paying attention to developing spelling skills required by students' need to facilitate the practice of the Arabic language in reading and writing. Reformulating the concept of testing in the minds of students as a means of evaluation and not an end in itself, and increasing the application of extracurricular activities in the field of teaching spelling, such as writing short stories from the students' imagination that do not exceed five to seven lines.
