Abstract

This research aims to know the effect of using the STEM approach to teach Biology’s creative thinking skills among high school students in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in compared to the traditional method. A list of stem-oriented strategies was identified and the creative thinking skills appropriate for first-grade secondary students were identified for the Biology courses. To achieve the research objectives, the researcher used a quasi-experimental approach. The research was applied to a sample of (66) female students from the first secondary school students in the city of Taif in the second semester of the year (2019), which were distributed into two groups. The experimental group consisted of (33) students and the control group (33) students. The researcher used the stem curve of the experimental group, while the control group studied with traditional learning - where the results of the research found statistically significant differences at the level of significance (0.01). Between the averages of the grades of the first graders of high school students who didn’t applied by the stem approach to developing creative thinking skills, and the averages of the grades of the students who were not exposed to the program (the control group), on each of the skills of "fluency, flexibility, originality, and problem-solving" for creative thinking as a whole, and these differences were All of them are in favor of the female students in the experimental group. The researcher recommended the necessity to focus on the stem approach in learning because of its importance in developing creative thinking skills
