Abstract

This study has aimed to stress the effectiveness of using Kagan models for cooperative learning in teaching mathematics, improving the academic achievement and developing the mathematical concepts among first intermediate grade students in Al-Ahsa Governorate in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia


The researcher has used the experimental method in his study. The study sample consisted of seventy-five students from the first intermediate grade in private schools in Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia. He has divided the sample into three groups; the first was a control group that was taught using traditional methods, and the second and the third groups were experimental, one applied the model of all write consensus and the second applied rally coach model. The groups consist of twenty-five students each, and were assured to be equal in terms of students’ age and their prior academic achievement in mathematics before conducting the study.


The researcher has set his study assumptions as follows:


There are no statistically significant differences between the students of the experimental groups (first and second) and those of the control group in the pre-measurement for the mathematics achievement test for the first intermediate grade.


 There are no statistically significant differences at the level (0.01) between students of the experimental groups (first and second) and the control group students in the post-measurement in favor of the experimental group in the mathematics achievement test for the first intermediate grade There are no statistically significant differences at the level (0.01) between students of the experimental group in the pre and post measurement in the academic achievement test in favor of the post measurement.، There are no statistically significant differences between the students of the first experimental group (which is taught by the model of all write round Robin) and the second experimental (which is taught by rally coach model) in the post-test of the academic achievement of the mathematics course. The study tool consisted in an achievement test to measure the cognitive levels of Bloom’s taxonomy, and their validity and stability were assured. The SPSS statistical program has been used to conduct the appropriate statistical treatments for data and study objectives and limitations to reach the results and recommendations. The study has found that there are statistically significant differences between both the experimental groups and the control group in the post-measurement of achievement in the direction of the experimental groups. Consequently, the study has reached a set of recommendations of which the most important are:


 To introduce modern teaching methods that have clear steps into the teacher's guides, including Kagan's models for cooperative learning. To apply Kagan’s models for cooperative learning in teaching to boost students' achievement in mathematics To pay attention to self-development and selecting good educational models while taking technical and technological standards when testing these models into consideration and To consider deepening mathematical concepts for students in early stages of education.
