Abstract

Abstract:

This study aims to identify Al-Awtbi’s methodology in dealing with the science of various hadiths, his methods of combining narrations or weighing between them, and the aspects of abrogation according to him. It addressed the introduction of Al-Awtbi and his book Al-Diya’, and his approach to working with various hadiths in terms of combining, weighting, abrogating, and pausing. The study concluded that: The most important methods of combining narrations are combining by specificity, making the interpreter assume the generality, combining by restriction, combining by the permissibility of the two matters, and combining by interpretation. The methods of weighting that he used to avoid conflicting narratives are multiple. Among them are giving preference to proof over negation, giving preference to what is supported by what strengthens its meaning from the Qur’an, giving preference to the highness of the chain of transmission, giving preference to the narrator’s direct report due to the reason for the narration, giving preference to what was in the text free of confusion, giving preference to what was an explicit statement over what was inference, and giving preference to what agreed with analogy, and he chose Al-Awatbi as a linguistic investigator. The fact that abrogation, with its multiple meanings, is a fact of removal, and this issue is one of the matters over which disagreement occurred between linguists and fundamentalists. Throughout his book, issues related to the rule of abrogation are discussed. The first thing in this is to clarify abrogation to resolve the conflict as the first step in resolving the conflict, and that abrogation falls into command and prohibition, not news and issues. The promise and the threat, and that the Qur’an is God’s ruling and the Sunnah as well, and each of them cancels the other.
