Abstract

This study aims to collect what has been mentioned in the books of exegesis, creed, and linguistics regarding the meanings and derivations of the word “Lahd”, and to deduce its connotations by following the method of tracing and holistic analysis of the Qur’anic verses.

 The findings revealed that contextual meaning in the Qur’an plays a vital role in understanding the significance of Qur’anic vocabulary and deriving its intended meaning. The word “Lahd”, depending on the context of the verse, primarily conveys the meaning of deviation and inclination. The exegetical interpretation does not differ from its original linguistic meaning. Furthermore, the term appears in the Qur’an in different derivations: in the present tense verb form, in the verbal noun form, and as a noun of place.
