Abstract
The language of the noble hadith contains several linguistic phenomena, among which is replacement (istibdal), which has played a significant role in understanding and interpreting the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and in deriving some jurisprudential rulings based on it. The researcher aimed to introduce this phenomenon in a brief study and clarify the linguistic studies surrounding it. The presence of this phenomenon in the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is highlighted, along with its impact on understanding and interpreting the hadith. The research is organized around the following points: types of replacement, lexical replacement, vertical lexical replacement, nominal replacement, and verbal replacement, along with examples and studied models related to these points. The researcher concluded several findings, the most important of which is that despite the criticisms and objections directed at many theories of Arabic, the precedence of Arab Islamic culture in modern linguistic theories remains undeniable. Looking at the heritage of our ancestors—may Allah have mercy on them—we find that they utilized these theories and applied them in ways that align with the nature of our noble language, owing to their knowledge and engagement in linguistic matters specifically and Islamic culture generally. This demonstrates that our Arab Muslim ancestors were aware of text grammar or textual linguistics—without formally naming a theory as such—and they employed these concepts in their writings, benefiting from them and reaping their fruits.
