Abstract

The crime of bribery is a global phenomenon that often spreads in developing countries where administrative corruption in institutions is widespread. The problem of this research revolves around the spread of the scourge of bribery in government institutions in the Federal Republic of Somalia. Therefore, this research aims to reveal the reasons for the spread of bribery within the Somali government institutions, and the effects that result from this phenomenon. Moreover, it also studies the effectiveness of the efforts made by successive governments in Somalia to combat this scourge, and lastly, suggests effective ways to combat this crime. Inductive and analysis methodologies were followed to conduct this research. The research concluded that the collapse of the Somali central government in 1992 has greatly contributed to the spread of corruption in general and the spread of bribery across the country. The research has also concluded that the successive governments in Somalia have failed to develop and implement mechanisms to combat corruption in general.
