Abstract
The Sharia law has come with the desirability of lengthening the supererogatory prayers, but there an exception to that. Therefore, this research was conducted to document what the scholars had collected regarding the situations in which it is advisable to shorten the supererogatory prayers, as well as what I have come across throughout relevantly referenced hadiths. The first person to pay attention to mentioning the situations or conditions in which it is desirable to shorten the supererogatory prayer based on what I have found is the scholar Abu Hafs Al-O’kbari Al-Hanbali who died in 997. He mentioned only four positions. Then, the Hanbali Scholar Mohammed Al-Bahooti died in 1678 listed them, and added five other positions to them, so the total became nine positions. Then, I added eight positions to them in this research so that the total number of positions has become 17. The intended shorthening of the prayer is its shorthening with its intactness, which limits it to the minimum level of its full performance while performing the obligatories and sunnahs without violating them. This confirms the Muslim’s need to know the Sunnah of the Prophet, may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him, regarding the matters of reducing supererogatory prayers and their way of performance, and confirms the integration between jurisprudence scholars and hadith scholars.
