Abstract

ABSTRACT

The aim of the researcher through this study is to delve into the depths of one of the most important poetic heritage sources, namely the collection of the Hudhail tribe. This collection is considered one of the significant sources for several reasons. Firstly, the collection is rich with poems by renowned poets from different backgrounds, including pre-Islamic, experienced, and Islamic poets. Secondly, the poets covered a wide range of topics and excelled in expressing them through description, comparison, satire, and praise. Thirdly, due to the extensive geographical spread of the Hudhail tribe across the Arabian Peninsula and the Hijaz region, it had deep interactions with numerous well-known Arab tribes. Consequently, this resulted in the richness and intertwining of themes. Here, the role of the researcher comes in presenting the theoretical and foundational aspects of "kāna" (to be) as the mother of verbs. All the rules of verb derivation apply to it, including deficiency, completion, modification, derivation, preposition, delay, deletion, affirmation, negation, causation, and neglect. Moreover, it is one of the most frequently used verbs in the Arabic language, with all its derivatives and conjugations. Then, the researcher moves on to extract what is mentioned in the collection of the Hudhail tribe, which was compiled by Imam al-Shinqīṭī. The researcher provides a comprehensive literary explanation, clarifies its vocabulary and meanings, determines its position within the poem, and analyzes its grammatical structure. Furthermore, the researcher highlights the implications conveyed by the verb "kāna" in this context, including its conjugation, tense, and syntactic function in terms of semantic connotations.
