Abstract

This research sheds light upon the perspectives of a sample of famous philosophers across ages on the issue of suicide. Philosophy advocates perceive it as capable of presenting solutions to humanity’s problems. This research compares and criticizes these perspectives in the light of Islamic principles decrees which prohibit and criminalize suicide due to various matters. The preface of this research talks about the philosophical meaning of life, who is a philosopher, thephilosophical concept of suicide and suicide from a religious perspective. The researcher concluded that philosophers -before and now- are divided into two camps: the opposing and the justifying. What decides the camp is the closeness to religion and its principles, and intuition and its prerequisites.
