Abstract

The scholar Ali bin Abdullah Al-Samhoudi, who died in 911 H, is one of the most important scholars of the nation who was known for knowledge and action. He lived in an era in which political chaos abounded, and economic and social conditions worsened, yet there was a clear prosperity in the scientific life of his time. The problem of this research was the introducing of this scholar and his scientific value in his doctrine, and the definition of his book (Sadh Al-Sawaji’ Ali) on Usul Al-Fiqh. Then the research dealt with his name, lineage, birth and upbringing, his request for knowledge, his scientific status, his sheikhs and disciples, his effects and his writings. In this research, the researcher relied on the descriptive, analytical, and historical method. Through this research, the researcher reached conclusions, the most important of which is that Imam Al-Samhoudi in his book often quotes from some of the previous imams, such as Al-Ghazali and Ibn Rushd, and clarifies what they mean, that he usually shows the fruits of disagreement in fundamentalist issues, and the type of disagreement is it verbal or moral? In addition to his editing of the Shafiʽi doctrine and his invocation of it in most issues. The researcher also found among the lines and the folds of the book the high moral and great politeness between the scholar al-Samhudi and his sheikh, the commentator Jalal al-Din Al-Mahalli, whether in seeking an excuse for him, or justifying and explaining his intention. Al- Samhudi has many valuable works. Among his most important books are: “Wafa al-Wafa bi akhbar Dar al-Mustafa,” and “Jawahir al-Iqdayn fi Fadl al-Sharafayn”.
