Title of the study: Applying cooperative learning in Islamic schools in Lagos State of Nigeria from the teachers’ point of view.
Objectives of the study: The purpose of this research is to identify the extent of which the teachers in the Islamic schools in Lagos state of Nigeria are familiar with the necessary skills to apply cooperative learning, to identify the possibility of applying cooperative learning and to investigate the difficulties of applying cooperative learning.
Study sample: A survey was developed by the researcher to collect data from (100) teachers in the Islamic schools in Lagos state of Nigeria, through questionnaire consisted (45) questions in (3) axes.
Statistical process: In this study, the researcher used the descriptive survey statistics (frequencies, percentages, averages, standard deviation, T test, Anova, Scheffe, Pearson, Alpha Cronbac).
Results of the study: The most significant outcome reveal from this study is that:
- the teachers in the Islamic schools in Lagos State of Nigeria have high level of the necessary skills to apply cooperative learning in their teaching with overall average (3.83).
- The possibility to apply the cooperative learning is high with overall average (3.52).
- The overall average of the challenges that preventing the application of cooperative learning in the Islamic schools in Lagos state of Nigeria is (3.30).
- There are no statistical significant differences between the sample responses due to gender towards applying cooperative learning.
- There are statistical significant differences due to level of education between degree and post graduate holders towards cooperative learning application skills favored the degree holders, and also favored degree holders in the difference between high school and post graduate holders.
- There are statistical significant differences due to years of experience between less than (5) years and above (10) years towards the challenges preventing the application of cooperative learning favored the (10) years and above.
Recommendations: Nevertheless, upon the study results, suggested recommendations are: enhancing the awareness of the importance of cooperative learning in teaching and learning, providing good infrastructure to enhance applying cooperative learning and reducing teachers’ tasks.
