Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aims to bring closer the understanding of Islamic values by studying the values of mercy and concealment in the Hadith of Ma'iz bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him). The study involves tracking and compiling the various narrations of the Hadith into a cohesive context, then highlighting the manifestations of these values through two main sections. The first section focuses on the value of mercy, providing a definition and exploring its manifestations in the story of Ma'iz, including facilitating repentance, guiding him to offer excuses, verifying facts without haste in applying legal punishment, the Prophet’s command for the Companions to seek forgiveness for him, expiation through the prescribed punishments, and protecting his honor after his passing. The second section delves into the value of concealment, explaining its concept and highlighting its manifestations within the Hadith, such as encouraging the sinner to conceal their sin, guiding the community to maintain discretion, and suggesting the possibility of withdrawal from the confession. The study concludes by emphasizing key findings, including the importance of verification before implementing legal punishments in Islam, averting punishments in cases of doubt, and suggesting excuses for those confessing to offenses, with acceptance of their withdrawal from confession. Furthermore, it highlights the encouragement for individuals in similar situations to repent to Allah and maintain privacy without disclosing their sins to others.
