Abstract

This research criticized and analyzed an account mentioned in the narratives of the prophet’sbiography. Albukhari included it in one of the narratives of his sound compiled book on the authority of Imam Ibn Shihab Alzuhri. The account states that the prophet -peace may be upon him- fell into deep grief when the revelation stopped for a while at the beginning of his prophecy. Out of his anguish, the prophet tried throwing himself off the steep mountains of Makkah except for Gabriel appearing before him every time preventing him and saying, “You are truly a messenger of Allah, and I am Gabriel.” This research also browsed old and new positions of scholars on this account whether they were silence, acceptance, or objection in relation to the confirmed inerrancy of prophets. This research aimed at tackling this account with balance and moderation that combines between inerrancy prerequisites and the human nature of prophets and preserves the status of previous scholars while correcting what they transmitted in a collision and abstained to disproof. The approach of this research was exploring hadith and biography books and their commentaries which included this account then analyzing, criticizing and discussing them. This research concluded that there is a necessity to depart from the texts’senses and early Muslims’ understanding when proving inerrancy matters and combining them with the prerequisites of human nature without falling under the influence of mutakallimun’simmoderation or imbalance of approach when refuting the suspicions of orientalists and atheists.
